There is a legistrative movement in the United States to raise awareness of braille and literacy. Senators Patty Murray, John Boozman and Tom Harkin have cosigned a letter to Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan asking him to consider revising the Department of Education's regulation "to provide additional guidance to school districts as to the circumstances in which braille instruction is beneficial to a student who is blind or has a visual impirment."  The Senators circulated a letter to their colleagues in the Senate encouraging them to cosign the letter they wrote to Secretary Duncan.
